Beat the Heat Tip: Pine Valley

The Pine Valley Mountains, located 30 miles north of St George on Highway 18, are the high, forested mountains located north of I-15 between St George and Cedar City. The highest point is Signal Peak, at 10,325 feet. The mountains offer great opportunity to hike, backpack, camp, fish, hunt, and enjoy other outdoor sports.

The mountains are a lush green haven towering above the red rock desert. The high peaks are included in a federally protected wilderness area. A cluster of campgrounds can be found on the north side of the peaks, around the town of Pine Valley. A small reservoir in that area offers canoeing and fishing opportunities. Equestrian activities are very popular there.

5 Ways to Lower Your Electric Bill in Warm Weather

1. Set the thermostat to the highest comfortable temperature. Moving the thermostat up one degree could mean about a three percent reduction in your electric bill.

2. Keep air conditioner filters clean. Aluminum mesh filters may be washed. Fiberglass filters should be replaced.

3. Keep air vents clear of obstructions.

4. Close the drapes on the sunny side of the house during the day.

5. If you’re gone for an extended period, leave your air conditioner off.

Excavation by Exit 2

Have you been wondering what’s going on with all the dirt moving at our new Exit 2? For those of you interested in the future of the State Trust Land on the east side of I-15, take a look at the Master Plan here (this is a rather large file (26MB) so be patient). Please note that a Master Plan only designates a range of potential land uses. Except for the new visitor center (1-2 years out), no other projects have been determined.

It is recommended that you check and clear your gutters of all debris. You can flush gutters and downspouts with a hose jet if necessary. Clear dirt and roofing surface granules that may build up in the bottom of the gutter, as they can slow or impede the downspout drainage. Remember to take precautions if climbing on a ladder to get high enough to check and clean your gutters.

Meet the Neighbors: the Merrimans

Dale & Allene Merriman now call SunRiver home. Prior to retirement, the Merrimans had built several homes and lived for a time in Lake Havasu, Arizona. During their working years, Dale spent over 35 years with Coors Brewery and Allene worked for the Jefferson County School District, located in the greater Denver Colorado area.

In 2006 during one of their trips between Denver and Lake Havasu, they noticed a sign for SunRiver St. George and decided to check it out! “We went home and put our house on the market, we got discouraged at times, it took over a year but we stuck with it and our home sold!!! We then designed our beautiful home just the way we wanted it, the process was a breeze. We loved working with Boyd our Agent and Ashlee our Designer.” What drew Dale & Allene to SunRiver St. George was the overall Southern Utah area, SunRiver St. George was a 55+ adult community, and the homes are gorgeous. “We are so happy our dream came true and we moved to SunRiver St. George.” Welcome Merrimans to SunRiver St. George Family!!!
